Winter Solstice is the shortest day, and longest night, of the year.  The Sun has reached its northernmost point and appears to stand still in the sky.  From this day forward the days light will continue to grow longer gaining about 3 minutes of sunlight per day.  All through human history Winter Solstice has been celebrated with rituals and festivals.  If you made it to Solstice one should be able to get to Spring.  There is hope for the future.  It is therefore a time of rebirth, both for the Sun and for ourselves.

Lucina is a Roman Goddess, a Moon-Goddess, a Mother Goddess.  She is the goddess of light, the Goddess that brings things into light.  Lucina watches over the birth of plants and animals as well as humans.  It was to Her that mothers prayed for peace, especially during times of war, to protect their children as well as for a peaceful childbirth.  Her main symbols/aspects are candles, the moon.

We will be celebrating with our Annual Candle exchange.  Bring a candle, decorated for peace.  If you would like inspiration we will be having a candle decorating night tomorrow at 7:30.  You can come and decorate your candle with us.  We will be lighting the candles in the ritual to bring the Solstice energy into the year with us.  Time to come out of our cave of introspection and look towards the new year.  Let Lucina guide us into Her radiant light this beautiful Winter Solstice.

For the altar please bring a white candle, any images of Roman Lucina or Her symbols.  Please also bring your candle for the exchange.

Also Please see our Participation page for more information on participating in gatherings and how to RSVP.
