2020 Chimalma – Indigenous Peoples

Aloha Daughters of the Goddess,

It is amazing to me how fluidly some of us have moved into new and different ways of continuing to gather in community.  I am the opposite of a hermit so finding creative ways to bring us together during the major shifts we are going through has been a source of inspiration.  I’ve enjoyed meeting so many new and wonderful people as well as being able to be in the familiarity of those I know.

We’ve ebbed and flowed with very small in person rituals – with social distancing sensitive protocol and also jumped into the zoom room as well.  I’m super excited to share with you this in person experience/ceremony.  Lorena Tamayo Oceguera is an incredible spirit woman of Mayan Ancestry, and long-term soul sister of Daughters of the Goddess since our beginning 25 years ago, will be Initiated as a Priestess.  The next ceremony will be in person, but your well wishes will be read if you can’t make the in person gathering.

This Holy event will also happen on Indigenous People’s Day and we will be honoring Goddess Chimalma the Great Aztec Mother.  Join us and celebrate so many wonderful things happening in unison!

The date of Columbus’ arrival in the new world on October 12th, 1492 was adopted by many countries across the Americas and the Caribbean as a public holiday.  Seen by some as a positive, but not always a blessing for others.

In recent decades, the awareness that colonization by Spain and other European nations spelt disaster for the indigenous peoples had led to almost all of these holidays being replaced by a ‘Day of the Races’ or Indigenous People’s Day, which focuses on celebrating the heritage and contribution to the Americas of those who were here before Columbus.

As we see statues of conquerors and oppressors of people of color fall and being taken down, we add our power to the importance of this day.  And what a blessing to honor this day and one of our Indigenous Daughters and Grandmothers by Initiating Lorena as a Priestess of our Temple and Community.

We also honor The Great Mother Chimalma, mother of Quetzalcoatl.  Her name means shield-hand.  Please bring your love, peace, and harmony to this ceremony.  As we rise one woman up, we are all brought up with her.  And please bring a candle with a color from the rainbow and some harvest offerings.

And the p.s. for this notice is there will be a zoom ritual with the Ancestor pictures and meditation for our Annual Spiral Dance on Wednesday, October 28 and an in person Spiral Dance, Friday October 30, 7 p.m.  You must register for both events to receive private invitation, although you don’t need to attend both.  Location for the in person Spiral Dance will be in the East Bay, San Francisco Bay Area but you must register to receive invitation.  Registration is $23 if sent before Friday October 23 or $29 after that.  Please send to PayPal at Leilani@DaughtersoftheGoddess.com and mark Spiral Dance and if you want to do Zoom, in person or both.  You can also send a check to mailing address included in this notice.

Please see our participation page for more information on attending our ceremonies.
