We gather at the Oceanside under the Golden Gate Bridge. We hear songs of the waves and feel the damp mists on our bodies. We drum and sing as Mama Sea keeps the beat. The heartbeat of the Mother the heartbeat of Yemaya. We are going on our annual sacred pilgrimage to the ocean to celebrate Big Mama Yemaya.
Yemaya is the ocean, the essence of Motherhood, and a protector of children. She is a beautiful curvy West African Mermaid Goddess of creation, the moon, the ocean and Womyn’s Mysteries. Yemaya is the Goddess that aids Womyn and children especially during childbirth. She is a Goddess to bring our sadness and sorrows to the Oceanside. She will wash and heal us. She is celebrated in many parts of the World; West Africa, Cuba, Trinidad, Brazil, Haiti and New Orleans. Yemaya's colors are blue, silver, and white, like her beloved waters.
Out of Yemaya's womb came all the fresh water, ocean water and the first humans. She is the first mother and brought fertility to the world. She is the spirit of water nothing can live without Her. All things, plant and animal, are partly made from Her.
This year's ceremonial offering will be for those women who are looking for a better home or home life. Also, if you want to get pregnant there will be a special part of the ritual for you! We will also ask for healing around mothering, healing with our own mothers and also for assistance for those of us who are mothers. Our magick will be sent to all the Mothers of the world.
Please wear BLUE,
bring something representative of the sea for the altar
and any mermaid images and a blue candle.
Our tithe this year will be to our elder Auntie Pahea. Auntie Pahea is a Hawaiian Kumu who taught and shared with us Hawaian tradtion on our Temple’s pilgrimage to Hawaii. We want to honnor her for her work and her teachings at Yemaya. Please bring 7-$1 bills wrapped in a blue cord or ribbon.
We will be feasting during the ritual so please bring a snack to share and your own dish and utensils. The weather is very unpredictable so please bring layers, sunscreen, a bathing suit and a towel are recommended.
Come and Worship at the ocean to the release those things that you no longer need to the Ocean and to give thanks for all you have. Come share in a full day of MermaidenSea and Ocean Magick.
Ocean Blessings,
Leilani, Patrice and Kealoha
